Fountain of Youth Cocktails & Mocktails

After coming across a wonderful recipe for a Shaghai Twist on realage.com, I realized I haven’t shared any of my fun Aloe mocktail and cocktail recipes with you.  Shame on me! :-)   After all, these were some of my very first recipes developed.  Back before I started baking with Aloe, I decided if I was going to have a cocktail, I might as well try to make it a little bit healthy.  Recreating a Red bull and vodka was the first, very simple experiment.

AloeBoost™ and Vodka

  • 1 oz. flavored vodka of your choice
  • 1 oz. AloeBoost™
  • topped with sprite/7 up (I prefer diet)

Then my very intelligent Mother pointed out that I should try something with tequila, because out of all the alcohols, it’s the only one that isn’t a downer.  If you have ever had a Red Bull and vodka, you know that it is a little confusing to your system.  One ingredient “gives you wings” and the other tears them off, lol.  Resulting in a very weird buzz!  Anyway, that’s how the Boost-arita was created.

Boost-arita

  • 1 oz. AloeBoost™
  • 1 oz. tequila ( my favorite is Sauza Hornitos Reposado)
  • topped with lemonade ( again I prefer sugar free because I’m a calorie counter, :-) )

Now for the non-alcoholic mocktails :-) .  These are a nice treat for me, because I gave up alcohol for 1 year for my new years resolution.  That’s one reason I was so happy to find this awesome recipe for the Shanghai Twist!

Shanghai Twist
Serves two teetotalers
This exotic virgin cocktail — or mocktail — is “practically the fountain of youth,” says Duggan McDonnell, owner of Cantinain San Francisco. It’s made with an antioxidant-rich mixture of lemon, white tea, and aloe vera juice and sweetened naturally with agave nectar. So raise your glass and say “Gan bei!” (Chinese for “Dry the cup!”)

8 ounces near-boiling water
1 bag Chinese white tea
1 tablespoon Aloe Vera juice
1 tablespoon agave nectar
Juice of 1 Meyer lemon
6 ounces Reed’s Original Ginger Brew or other natural ginger ale
Steep the tea bag, Aloe Vera juice, and agave nectar in a mug of hot water for about 5 minutes, stirring gently. Remove the tea bag and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Fill two tall glasses with ice and pour in tea mixture, lemon juice, and ginger brew. Stir; garnish with a lemon slice.

These next mocktail recipes are super simple!  You can make just one or a whole bowl of punch for a party.  Add some fresh berries or sliced citrus for a fun twist.

Advanced-Boost Punch

  • 1 oz. AloeBoost
  • 1 oz. AloeAdvanced
  • 6 oz. ginger ale ( I recommend Hansen’s sugar free)

Here’s one for the real health nuts, who want a little pick me up!  It couldn’t be easier and it taste very similar to bottled green tea, but without all sorts of added ingredients.  Also, you can make it at a restaurant, by just ordering a glass of water.

Boost-Tea

  • 2 oz. shot of AloeBoost
  • 16 oz of sparkling or flat water (whatever your preferance)
