More Fruity Fiascos

A Super Aloe Girl Smoothie is a spectacular start to a day, mostly because, I know exactly what is in it! After all, that’s the number one reason I stopped indulging at the gym, and switched to making a frozen concoction at home.  Not only do I know the calorie count but I can also add my beloved Aloe Vera Juice.  Why not?  For more than 2000 years, humanity has taken advantage of this unique Lilly-plant that delivers seventy-five nutritional components including 20 minerals, 18 amino-acids and 12 vitamins.  Simply blend up some frozen fruit(tropical fruit is my favorite), a little protein powder (tropical here too :-) ), a shot of AloeAdvancedâ„¢, and a splash of whatever kind of juice you have on hand.  Blend on high, until everything is flowing smoothly, approx. 1 min.  Then turn it down to aerate it for at least a minute, this will get it nice and light, almost like whip cream.  YUMMY!

Once again the wonderful peeps at Eat This, Not That, break it down real simple.  They have put together a nice list of 14 smoothies that are imposter’s!  Posing as healthy, when in reality, they are far from it! As they said ”No amount of antioxidants can undo the damage of 232 g of sugars.”  And how is Baskin Robbins allowed to put a title of ‘Real Fruit Smoothie’ on something that “the only real fruit involved (banana) appears dead last on the list of ingredients-behind a number of nasty items that made our list of the 11 most controversial food additives in America such as red #40, yellow #5, and yellow #6.”?

Here’s just an example of the dangers lurking at your local smoothie bar, BEWARE!!!

Smoothies are as close to a perfect meal as you can get-delicious, nutritious, fast, and portable. No wonder ready-to-eat smoothie sales are up 139 percent since 2002, and made-to-order smoothie sales-sold at fast-food and juice chains-will jump to more than $2.5 billion this year compared with $989 million in 2002, according to a new study from Mintel, a research specialist.

Toss the right combination of nutrient-dense foods in the blender, and a smoothie has the ability to help your heart, pump up your workout, juice your brain, or boost your mood. But these 14 blender blunders won’t do you any favors. Write them off as milkshakes masquerading as health food.
