The Real Taste of Aloe Vera

There’s ones common misconception about Aloe Vera juice and that’s that many believe it tastes bitter. Well Super Aloe Girl is here to set the record straight and encourage you to try it for yourself.  After all there are so many benefits to incorporating this magical, medicine plant into your diet. So, if you have a plant at home, cut off a leaf, fillet out the inner gel and take a bite.  Not bitter at all, right?

Here’s a great diagram that shows the analytical composition of the Aloe Vera leaf.

If you have had bitter Aloe juice before, it was most likely processed using the ‘whole leaf’ method, instead of the ’inner gel’ filleting method.  While “whole leaf’ might sound like a good thing, I protest that it’s just the cheap and easy way out.  There is a toxin called Aloin found under the rind of the leaf and in between it and the gel.  In this well written article by Pamela Glyn she discusses how the processing  methods differ.  She’s says;

“Many manufacturers use the whole leaf manufacturing process, involving harvesting the whole plant rather than individual leaves.

This is pulped and then filtered to remove unwanted elements such as the plant’s rind and sap – often called bitter aloes or aloin. The final filtration to extract this aloin is through an extremely efficient carbon filter that may also be extracting beneficial ingredients.”

As one of the senses, taste is an essential part of daily life. Our sense of taste provides us with valuable information about the nature and quality of our food.  There is even a  synthetic chemical called denatonium, the most bitter substance known, that is added to toxic substances to prevent accidental ingestion.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taste

“Bitterness clearly evolved with the sole purpose of warning you against the ingestion of toxic substances.”

I personally love all of Real Aloe’s products for several reasons; First, they have been in the Aloe Vera Business since 1972.  Also, they use only fresh Aloe leaves grown in the U.S.A.; therefore, the Aloe vera used in their products has never been frozen, freeze-dried, or reconstituted from a powder.  Lastly, they believe the original method of “hand filleting” the leaves,  which maintains the maximum biological activity and effectiveness from the Aloe leaf.  Check them out here: http://www.realaloeinc.com/default.aspx
